# Using forms to edit records

I have an existing table with records. I wanted to use the forms not to create new records but to edit existing records from the table.

I want to use the validations that I can put on a field and make it as easy as possible to complete the records for the people with domain knowledge. I would like to make some fields read-only.

I know that I can expand a record and edit it from a form like view, but I cannot put validations on the fields or walk through the records easily.

**Tldr** : I thought that it would be great if I can use the form view and walk through all the existing records and make edits, using validations and read-only fielda to keep everything in order.

For quick navigation in the expanded record, you can use either shortcut keys or chevron for previous & next record in the expanded record header

Did this ever happen? The feature request seems to be about something different - data validation rather than editing existing data? Thankyou!

There is a related feature request [here](https://github.com/nocodb/nocodb/issues/7091) for allowing forms use to update existing data. And another feature request [here](https://github.com/nocodb/nocodb/issues/9743) to allow field data validation for table record submission (in general, not just form). Please upvote the feature request in github to prioritise the same.

These are not in our immediate roadmap. Will discuss with team if we can prioritise on these.
