Primary value [Feb 05]

:raising_hand_man: vikiiingur asked

sorry for the noob question but what is the overall role of a** “Set as Primary value”**? I tried to look for an exhaustive explanation in the documentation, but there is nothing specific explained: https://docs.nocodb.com/setup-and-usages/tables

It is used for uniquely identifying value within column. Just like primary key but humanly readable. When connecting to existing dB, a column adjacent to primary key is auto selected as primary value. And this can be changed in the GUI. Will make it part of docs.

Providing some explanation in the docs is more than welcome!

+1 question: does the primary value span across the db or only the table it is part of, and what happens if I cross-link tables?

:person_tipping_hand: o1lab replied

On cross linking tables primary value shows up

I see, so this is its main role basically
